Together We Bloom is excited to announce our first open community call for: 1) A member of TWB’s Board of Directors (to serve as either secretary or treasurer); and 2) Advisory Board members. All roles are volunteer. For more information, please see below and the attached documents.

About Together We Bloom

 

The mission of Together We Bloom is to empower young children with disabilities and their families through equitable access to connection, communication, and community.

We progress this mission through two vital strategies: 1) Providing sliding scale, neurodiversity-affirming speech and language therapy and 2) Working to transform our community into a place that is more inclusive and equitable for disabled and neurodivergent children.

 

Our Commitment to Diverse Leadership

 

 All members of the public are welcome to apply to be considered for a position on TWB’s leadership boards. Disabled and/or neurodivergent individuals as well as parents and caregivers of disabled and/or neurodivergent children are particularly encouraged to consider a position.

 

At TWB, we are committed to maintaining diverse leadership that represents the community we serve and prioritize disabled representation in our leadership.  We are dedicated to learning from and amplifying disabled and neurodivergent individuals—especially those who are BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+.

 

TWB is committed to making participation on the boards accessible to disabled and neurodivergent individuals through open communication with members about their access needs and preferences, flexible communication modalities, accommodations for participation in meetings, and flexible time commitments.

 

About Our Open Positions

 

  1. Member of the Board of Directors (1 open position)

The Board of Directors (BoD) is the governing body with legal decision-making capacity that oversees:

  • Fiscal oversight, including approving TWB’s annual the budget

  • Supporting TWB’s mission alignment through collaborative strategizing and planning in partnership with TWB’s  Executive Director (ED) and Advisory Board

  • Supervising, evaluating, and supporting TWB’s ED

  • Ongoing fundraising to ensure TWB’s short- and long term sustainability

 

Skills, Strengths and Qualifications for Board Members: 

  • Interest and desire to work for disability justice in the SOMA community and beyond. This includes a commitment to intersectionality, to ongoing personal and community growth in understanding of ableism, and to centering the voices of those most impacted.

  • Eagerness to be an ambassador of the organization’s mission (examples include but are not limited to: publicizing community events and resources to one’s personal/professional networks; identifying program partners; introducing TWB staff to prospective donors/board members/advisors/volunteers)

  • Ability to attend at least 4 full-board meetings per year and correspond regularly between in-person meetings

  • Commitment to listen to the needs of the community 

  • Willingness to work closely with other  community stakeholders committed to the mission in our unique leadership framework

  • Prior board service  or non-profit expertise in financials/budgeting, fundraising, nonprofit management, grant writing, communications are appreciated but not required.

  • Willingness to serve as either secretary or treasurer of the board (training provided)

2. Advisory Board Members (multiple openings)

The Advisory Board is made up of diverse community members including individuals with lived experiences of disability or neurodivergence; parents/caregivers of disabled or neurodivergent loved ones; community leaders and professionals that help lead the organization by:

  • Supporting and advising the ED and BoD to remain centered on its values and mission

  • Guiding the strategic plan through sharing their  diverse perspectives

  • Expanding TWB’s outreach in our community

 

Skills, Strengths and Qualifications for Advisory Members: 

  • Interest and desire to work for disability justice in the SOMA community and beyond. This includes a commitment to intersectionality, to ongoing personal and community growth in understanding of ableism, and to centering the voices of those most impacted.

  • Willingness to work closely with others committed to TWB’s mission in our unique leadership framework

  • Desire to contribute to the organization in a meaningful way to you, through sharing of your experiences or expertise, contribution of your professional skills, or volunteering of time to progress the organization. Applicants should still apply even if they don’t yet know how they will contribute as long as they want to support the organization.

  • For this role there are no required meetings or duties in order to keep the role flexible, inclusive, and accessible. We hold advisory board meetings officially 4 times a year with additional individual or small group/committee opportunities presented in between meetings. 

  • This position is flexible and adaptable for you to contribute your unique gifts and talents to a growing organization in your own way.
